“The greatest thriller writer alive today” puts rogue agent Blaine McCracken in the sights of a space-borne superweapon in this Cold War nail-biter (Bookviews).
In the last years of the Cold War, policy and trust for the Russians have led to disarmament treaties and hope for a new beginning. But peace is not yet within grasp. An entire American town has been wiped off the map not by nuclear strike, but rather a space-borne particle cannon capable of reducing the entire nation to dust in hours.
But who pulled the trigger? Was it the Russians, making a final bid for world domination? Or was it a third power—some aspiring conqueror hoping to pit the superpowers against each other?
It’s up to Blaine McCracken to find out. An old flame has contacted the rogue op, begging for help protecting her father, a jeweler who has just been robbed of five rare stones—five rubies that could mean life or death for the United States.
This ebook features an illustrated biography of Jon Land including rare photos from the author’s personal collection.
The Alpha Deception The Blaine McCracken Novels Book 2 eBook Jon Land
The second in the Blain McCracken series.I've come to this series in a backward way. The first book of the series that I read was the 11th. That book I put in my top 5 so, I was ready to dig back into more.
If your asking why I jumped to the 2nd book and not the 1st, I can only say that I just picked one. It should be said that this is one of those rare series that you can really jump in anywhere and fully enjoy it without feeling confused through half the book. As with any series with recurring characters there is obviously a history built through each book and there are times when you sense that your not quiet getting the subtext of some things but as with skilled writers the author includes just the right words for fans and followers to feel the thread but not so much as to confuse new readers.
This book showed me the earlier version of McCrakenballs (I love that!) and Wareagle that helped me better understand them, especially some of the Native American mysticism of Wareagle.
This story revolves around a crazed Russian (How appropriate for the recent current events), spies, traitors, killers, Atlantis, massive shoot outs, the total inhalation of a town in the blink of an eye, and a deadly weapon capable of harnessing the power of the sun.
Early on there is a pivotal event that serves as the catalyst for the unleashing of Blaine.
That should be enough to whet your appetite.
P.S. I discovered a character that spans at least two different series from the author. The two couldn't be more different. The characters appears in this book and also the Strong series, a series that brings out a female Texas Ranger that is no joke. I highly recommend those books as well.

The Alpha Deception The Blaine McCracken Novels Book 2 eBook Jon Land Reviews
great read..but you really need to read the series in order..but just love the action and the twists and turns..and all the characters are sooooooooo real..makes you feel like you are right there with them..
Jon Land is an excellent writer. The subject matter he writes about is always interesting. In this case, a 'death beam' that vaporizes all it touches. A good read.
Haven enjoyed his books before and this was really good too!
A damned good storyteller delivers another can't-put-it-down read!
I have come to really enjoy Jon Land's books. They are very entertaining. Not as cerebral as I would like, but again they are action novels. Really not intended to challenge your intellect but to simply entertain. In this genre Mr. Land is very adept.
Exciting nonstop action with many twists and turns keeping the story flowing to an unexpected finish. A new Agent to rival Bond.
Blaine does it again with a premise that is believable, although 'suspended disbelief' remains a constant in reading his heroics. As a quasi super hero he gets out of more predicaments better than most but the bad guys are require more development to hate them the way a reader needs to. Land remains smooth and consistent with his characters and provides sufficient twists and turns to keep the reader happy. A good quick read.
